Odd fire/even fire has nothing to do with 60 or 90 degrees. If it has one, it may be worth securing the vac advance plate so as not to have it vibrate and vary the advance when not needed. I don't see why leaving a vac advance disconnected on that application would be a problem. Just got to work out the hookup and see if it is even feasable. Later V8 HEI distributors with the external coil will be much smaller in diameter if space is a concern. The later Iron Dukes had C3 DIS with no distributor. Those however, did initially have problems with broken cranks at the splayed joints. They very shortly thereafter built the splayed cranks to even out the interval. They were reputed to shake pretty badly at idle, as told by some colleagues that worked on them at the time. This one, as I understand, was almost literally a V8 missing two cylinders. If memory serves, around '75 or so, GM made an odd fire V6 where two cylinders did not fire at 120deg intervals.
